Trump Signs Executive Order Granting Federal Employees Two Extra Days Off For Christmas!

Trump has signed an executive order granting most federal employees two additional days off in observance of Christmas.

Under the order, executive departments and federal agencies will be closed on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, and Friday, December 26, 2025 — the days immediately before and after Christmas Day.

When combined with the holiday and weekend, many federal workers will receive a five-day holiday break, according to Fox News.

Trump also noted “may determine that certain offices and installations of their organizations, or parts thereof, must remain open and that certain employees must report for duty” on Dec. 24 or 26. 

“All executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government shall be closed and their employees excused from duty on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, and Friday, December 26, 2025,” the order states.

In order to establish Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas as a permanent federal holiday, Congress must then pass the order into legislation followed by the president must sign it into law.

The most recent federal holiday signed into order was Juneteenth back in 2021, under the Biden administration, reports The Hill.
