A five day statewide operation in Florida has resulted in the recovery of 163 missing children.
Authorities stated that the children recovered ranged in age from just two months old to 17 years old. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said some of the children were victims of human trafficking, abuse and exploitation.
According to ABC News, 46 children were recovered in Tampa, 41 in Miami, 32 in Jacksonville, 21 in Orlando, 12 in Fort Myers, 8 in Pensacola and 3 in Tallahassee.
Operation Statewide Shield, Florida’s first statewide child recovery initiative, brought together state, local and federal authorities to help identify, locate and recover missing children.
The operation also resulted in multiple arrests following allegations involving interference with child custody and unlawful activity involving a minor.
With 163 children recovered, officials say the investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue following leads and working to hold those allegedly responsible accountable.
