Cousins! During a private listening party in New York City for his album ‘Better Me Than You’, Big Sean opened up about some of the obstacles he ultimately faced from imposter syndrome to recovering from COVID!

“I am a chronic overthinker. I’m a chronic, constant worker. And I’ve been having a hard time lately, straight up,” he admitted. “When you make art, you put a lot into it. I definitely am a chronic overworker, overthinker, and I’ve been dedicating a lot of my life to it.”

Sean added, “I don’t try and read into what everybody says. It’s hard because you do care about your s**t. I try and stay focused on the path and keep the music focused on what I want to do, no matter what people think. Sometimes, if you read into too much s**t, the internet can suck the fun out of it. Just anything you do. So as an artist, expressing yourself is important to me to stay on that path.”

During the exclusive listening party held at Samsung addressed the viral video of him crying on Instagram live as he shared with fans that he had been sick while trying to finish the album and writing a book at the same time.”I was trying to do a lot of things in preparation of this album and then Covid completely slowed me down and I was going to push it again,” Sean explained.

“I was really low on strength. A lot of people saw a clip that got posted of me where I was getting emotional because I was just f*cking tired. I was still feeling sick.” Sean shared that he had been battling one of the hardest days of his life struggling to recover while also preparing for his album rollout and writing a book at the same time.

“It’s a book I’m very proud of. So you can imagine what it’s like writing a book and writing an album,” Sean revealed to attendees. He shared that it’s a self help book titled, “Go Higher” which is officially available for preorder now.

Sean admitted that though he has been afforded much success throughout his career he too often lives in his head. However, his faith in God and advice from his mother help carry him each day.

” Use the power of God, you may not have the power right now but use the power of God,” Sean recalls him mom saying to him after sharing that he felt as if he was going to cancel his trip to New York.

“Use the power of God sweetie. Go out, celebrate and be excited about your album.”
