The news of his passing was confirmed through a statement issued by his family Saturday morning on Scoop’s verified Instagram page.
“It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of the legendary and iconic FatMan Scoop. Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life.”
“FatManScoop was not just a world class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle and a friend.”
The statement continues, “he was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength, and courage.”
As we previously reported, the tragic incident occurred Friday evening while Scoop performed for fans in Connecticut. The 53-year-old is said to have collapsed onstage during a show at the Town Center Park in Hamden on Aug. 30.
Within footage shared across social media, Scoop can be seen performing with his shirt off as he engaged with attendees. He was in mid-performance when he instructed the audience to put their hands up, seconds later he knocked into the DJ and fell on the ground behind the booth. The video shows Scoop lying down motionless as paramedics gave him chest compressions.
“Tonight, while performing at Hamden Town Center Park, Isaac Freeman, aka Fatman Scoop, had a medical emergency on stage,” says Mayor Lauren Garrett in a forwarded statement. “He is being transported by ambulance to the hospital. We will provide updates when they are available. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.”
