#Cousins , it appears that the general public is not buying #TI ‘s response in regards to his parental tactics involving the status of his daughter’s virginity at all. So much so that #NewYork state lawmakers have began taking the necessary steps to legally prohibit doctors from performing virginity examinations!
According to The Slot; New York Senator’s Roxanne J. Persuad and State Assembly woman Michalle Solages paired up with co-sponsors Rick Gottfried, Andrew Hevesi, and Walter T. Mosley to forward Senate bill S6897.
Persuad’s states that virginity should not be used as a weapon or tool; indicating that this bill is necessary in order ensure the safety of all young women and girls. She goes on to say “These examinations are not only a violation of women’s and girls’ human rights, but in cases of rape can cause additional pain and mimic the original act of sexual violence, leading to re-experience, re-traumatization and re-victimization,” according to the memo. “Many women suffer from adverse short- and long-term physical, psychological and social consequences of this practice. This includes anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress.“
Also noting that allowing virginity check ups sends a direct message to society that a woman’s sexual experience should be manipulated, monitored or controlled. The ban also enforces legal consequences for any medical profession that conducts these exams. They will be identified as issuing “ an act of professional misconduct” and will be charged with class D felony of first-degree sexual abuse.
Reports read that Assemblywoman Solages stated in an interview with The New York Post that she was baffled by TI’s actions.“I was horrified to see this was happening. If a celebrity can impose his power to ensure his 18-year-old daughter gets checked, imagine what can be done in households across New York state?”
