As the premiere of Aftershock: The Nicole Bell Story approaches, the film’s leading stars Rayven Ferrell and Bentley Green sat down with NoirOnlineOrg to share how they emotionally prepared to portray Nicole and Sean Bell!

When asked how they balanced the emotional weight of their roles while honoring Sean and Nicole’s legacy, both actors revealed just how deeply the story impacted them.

Rayven Ferrell: “Some days, the weight stayed on me.”

Rayven, who portrays Nicole Bell, shared that this role demanded emotional depth unlike anything she had previously taken on.

“This was probably the most emotionally demanding role I’ve had to date… I was also going through something similar. My stepfather was killed, and I found myself thinking, ‘What is my mom going through?’ That helped me understand Nicole in a deeper way.”

She described how immersing herself in Nicole’s world meant tapping into grief, resilience, confusion, and love — emotions that didn’t always leave her once the cameras stopped rolling.

Interview with Aftershock’ Stars Rayven Ferrell & Bentley Green

“Some days it stayed with me. I’m one of those people who listens to music to get into character, and sometimes I had to balance staying true to the art while respecting everyone else’s energy. The emotions were that deep.”

Despite the heaviness, Rayven emphasized why she stayed committed:

“I hope I honored Nicole’s truth.”

Bentley Green: “I wanted people to see Sean’s joy.”

Bentley, who plays Sean Bell, approached his role by focusing on the bright, loving energy that Sean was known for.

“I focused on capturing Sean’s essence — his charisma, his happiness. It was important to show a Black man being happy, loving his family, trying to make it work, doing the right thing.”

While the emotional load during filming felt manageable, Bentley admitted that the reality of Sean’s tragedy hit harder afterward.

“It could have been me. It could have been any of us… going out with friends, living life. After filming, I found myself in a darker space — anger, confusion — just trying to understand that transition from living to being taken away.”

He credits Nicole Bell’s strength and presence for grounding the cast:

“Miss Nicole and her strength helped the whole crew get through.”
