Years after the heartbreaking and still-mysterious death of 19-year-old Kenneka Jenkins, her mother Tereasa Martin is calling out the pressure, the false promises, and the unanswered questions she says she’s been carrying alone!
In a message posted online from a Facebook page under Tereasa name; it explains how she was pushed into silence following the 2017 death of her daughter, Kenneka, a teenage girl whose case shook social media after she was found in a hotel freezer at the Crowne Plaza in Rosemont.
Martin claims she was “promised lies” from the beginning. She recalls being told that once the investigation was over, she would receive Kenneka’s clothing, shoes, cell phone, and other items. Instead, she says those promises were never honored—and that she was pressured not to speak on her daughter’s case at all.
Alleged Pressure, Hidden Details & Broken Promises
According to Martin, the pressure began immediately. She says officials kept her and her family in rooms for hours, insisting they agree to particular accounts of what happened to Kenneka. “They forced us… and would not let us go until we said what they wanted us to say,” she wrote. She also claims she was told Kenneka “somehow got out the back door,” but was never shown how, where, or which door—details she says were kept from both her and the public.
Martin’s statement also includes frustration with the way the media covered the case, saying she believes they intentionally left out key information. She expressed feeling tricked into thinking that cooperation and silence would eventually bring her answers. Instead, she says she was left with nothing but confusion, grief, and more questions.
✨ Still Seeking Answers, Still Holding On
Adding to her emotional turmoil, Martin reveals she was battling cancer during the height of the investigation—making the pressure and alleged manipulation even more devastating. She says she was made to “accept what they wanted to give us,” while still living every day without her child. Despite the possibility that speaking out again could lead to legal pushback, Martin says she is choosing her truth.
“I still don’t know what happened to my child… I’m rising above, staying strong, and holding on to hope,” she wrote.
Seven years later, Tereasa Martin is demanding the answers she says she was never given—and refusing to be silent any longer.
