Cousins! It appears that things aren’t all peaches and cream between estranged husband and wife Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert. Despite Teyana’s announcement of a friendly separation back in September, court documents obtained by TMZ detail that she filed for divorce nearly eight months ago!
Legal documents show that Teyana listed accusations of jealousy, narcissistic behavior, and multiple counts of infidelity as her reason for filing for divorce. She has also accused Iman of being jealous of her career and overall stardom in saying that he was insecure about being her man.
It has been indicated that Teyana detailed that Iman signing a $40 million contract with the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers back in 2015, the same year he received $8 million from the New York Knicks, he has been allegedly aggravated by Teyana gaining notoriety. The Harlem native claims that the former NBA player was jealous of her rising career in acting.
Within Georgia filed documents, Teyana says that throughout her seven-year marriage she feels that Iman had been “treating her cruelly and displaying extreme narcissistic behavior throughout the majority of their marriage.”
The 32-year-old says that he would start arguments with her for no reason even on her birthday.
Sources state that Teyana had attempted to keep her petition for divorce under wraps while filing documents only using her initials. However, Iman’s recent filing within divorce proceedings included his full name.
TMZ reports that Teyana turned down multiple career opportunities as she claims Iman did not want her to work. She claims he “began to intentionally dim her light for her husband to try to have a harmonious and peaceful marriage” as Iman “became angrier and angrier”
The outlet details that Teyana stopped working when she gave birth to her children Junie and Rue, however, Iman allegedly complained that she wasn’t bringing in any money.
Teyana explains that she works hard to keep her family together but allegedly Iman’s spiraling NBA career had taken a negative toll on their union. Though she is said to have used her connection in the TV and film industry to help Iman allegedly land roles, Teyana says their constant bickering led to her beginning the divorce process in 2021.
“She claims Iman has been involved in multiple cheating scandals during their marriage and cites his DUI arrest and recalls the time in 2022 when he was arrested for weed possession in an airport. Teyana also alleges Iman once crashed her Rolls Royce and fled the scene to avoid a second DUI arrest,” reports TMZ.
“Teyana says she tried to stay with Iman through thick and thin but says he “reacted with further cruel treatment and selfishness.”
TMZ reports, “After she secretly filed for divorce, she says Iman insisted on them getting back together only to be lackadaisical and inconsistent and become involved in another cheating scandal, which she says was embarrassing and humiliating.”
News of Teyana’s official filing for divorce sent shockwaves throughout social media. Back in September, we reported that Teyana had announced on Instagram she and Iman had been separated for a while but remained close friends.
Iman hasn’t yet publicly addressed news of Teyana’s claims although he shared a cryptic message on Instagram the following morning.
