Thousands of community members have come together to offer their support to 17-year-old student athlete Karmelo Anthony as he has officially been charged with murder following a fatal stabbing at a recent track meet!
As we previously reported, Karmelo of Frisco Centennial School and Austin Metcalf of Memorial High School, had an exchange of words that turned physical on Wednesday (April 2nd). Witnesses state that the two had argued, and things took a turn for the worse when Austin ordered Karmelo to leave his school’s tent area.
“Austin stood up and pushed the male to get him out of the tent, says a source. Karmelo then responded, ” Touch me and see what happens.” An obtained arrest report details that Karmelo allegedly took a Black knife from out of his backpack and stabbed Austin once in the chest.
Karmelo was arrested at the scene of the incident and is currently being held in police custody under a $1M bail bond. According to The NY Post, the crowdfunding page established on his family’s behalf is reaching closer towards their goal of 300,000 as support continues to pour in.
“I tried to whip around as fast as I could,” told Austin’s twin brother Hunter to WFAA. It has been determined that he was also on the scene as Austin and Karmelo argued. “I looked at my brother and I’m not going to talk about the rest. I tried to help him.”
Across social media, Karmelo is being described as a respectful, well-mannered young man with a 4.0 GPA and multiple college offers on the table. “A kid with ZERO criminal history- not even a blemish. A son raised in a loving home by parents who taught him right for wrong,”
When arrested Karmelo reportedly admitted to arriving officers that he did stab Austin and that he acted due to self-defense.
His family has since hired two high profile social justice lawyers from Dallas, Texas.
“Karmelo and the entire Anthony family are sincerely saddened that a life was lost and offer their condolences to the family of Austin Metcalf,” reads a statement issued Monday ( April 7th).
Sources state that over 5,400 people have donated at this time, currently raising $212,295.
“The narrative being spread is false, unjust, and harmful. As a family of faith, we are deeply grateful for all of your support during this trying period. Your prayers and assistance mean more to us now more than ever,” reads a statement from the fundraiser’s page.
