According to reports from BBC News, the Trump administration has extended the previously set ban for TikTok with an extension of another 75 days!
Donald Trump shared news of Tik Tok’s extension on his social media platform of Truth Social on Friday (April 4th).
“My Administration has been working very hard on a Deal to SAVE TIKTOK, and we have made tremendous progress. The Deal requires more work to ensure all necessary approvals are signed, which is why I am signing an Executive Order to keep TikTok up and running for an additional 75 days.”
Trump adds, “We hope to continue working in Good Faith with China, who I understand are not very happy about our Reciprocal Tariffs (Necessary for Fair and Balanced Trade between China and the U.S.A.!)”
“This proves that Tariffs are the most powerful Economic tool, and very important to our National Security! We do not want TikTok to “go dark.”
He concludes, “We look forward to working with TikTok and China to close the Deal. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
As we previously reported, Trump originally extended the Chinese owned platform scheduled ban when he first took office for his second term back in January.
The new extension was issued as the Trump administration actively works to negotiate a deal to bring Tiktok under American ownership.
In 2024 Congress passed a bipartisan law that gave ByteDance six months to sell its controlling stake in TikTok or have the app blocked within the US. Officials allege that TikTok’s super algorithm allows them to spy on Americans.
It has been indicated that a proposed bill between the U.S and China was almost finalized, however it was taken off the table following Trump’s tariff plans.
A source familiar with the deal says
ByteDance representatives contacted the White House to inform them China would no longer approve the deal unless negotiations on the tariffs could take place.
