Cousins! As the gut wrenching bombshell documentary series ‘Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV’ continues to make headlines, former child star and Nickelodeon veteran Kenan Thompson has taken the time to address the issued claims!
While appearing on the Tamron Hall Show back in March, Kenan was asked about his thoughts surrounding the docuseries. The former ‘All That’ cast member confirmed that he has not seen ‘Quiet on Set’ while admitting that the overall topic is personally a difficult subject for him.
Kenan expressed that it is a ‘good thing” for the docuseries to come out, as people are able to share “stories that need to be told for accountability’s sake.”
“But it’s definitely tough to watch because I have fond memories of that place, and I have fond memories of my co-stars.”
As we previously reported, ‘Quiet on Set’ features various Nickelodeon alums as they reveal the toxic work culture they experienced as children. The former child stars recall instances of racism, favoritism, verbal abuse and more at the hands of the network and producer Dan Schneider.
The documentary features stories from Drake Bell, Giovonnie Samuels, Alexa Nikolas and Raquel Lee Bolleau.
According to the Huffington Post, Dan has received producer credits for ‘All That’ and ‘Kenan and Kel’
“We did reach out to Dan Schneider’s team, and they directed us to a response that he posted on YouTube,” said Tamron. “We also reached out of course to the production company and they said that they investigate all of these things, investigate all of the allegations.”
“Well, investigate more,” said Kenan.
“It’s supposed to be a safe space, you know? It’s supposed to be a safe place for kids. And to hear all about that is just like, ‘How dare you?’”
Further in conversation, Kenan said that it was difficult for him to speak on the documentary or anyone else’s experiences because he didn’t witness any of those things.
“It’s tough for me because I can’t really speak on things that I never witnessed, you know what I’m saying? Because all these things happened after I left, basically,” he said.
Kenan added that, Dan “was’n’t really on ‘Kenan & Kel’ like that.”
“He got a ‘created by’ credit, but it was a different showrunner. So our worlds weren’t really overly overlapping like that outside of ‘All That,’ necessarily. And then all of that negativity kind of started happening outside of our tenure there,” Kenan explained. “So I wasn’t really aware of a lot of it.”
