Sherri Shepherd Speaks On The Importance Of Breaking Generational Curses & Uplifting The Youth Through Mentorship At National Cares Annual Gala!

Cousins! National CARES Mentoring Movement (CAREShosted their 9th annual For the Love of Our Children Gala event on February 29th live in New York City.

National CARES serves as a developed, community-based program that,” directly addresses the life-shredding effects of intergenerational Black poverty and lays a blueprint for community recovery.”

The charitable event celebrated the illustrious contributions of Dr. Trisha Bailey and Grace Vandecruze. Both women were recognized for utilizing their own experiences of childhood trauma to uplift youth members in various communities through impactful change.

”They have consistently given to impoverished and marginalized communities from their own overflows,” reads an issued press release.

We had a chance to catch up with comedian and actress host Sherri Shepherd as she hosted this year’s Gala event.

“I love this you have to start when these babies are young; mentoring them, getting them out of a generational curse of poverty; and I love that because it starts when you’re young,” said Sherri. “

Sherri expressed to us the value of uplifting children beginning at young ages while also giving the National Cares Mentoring Movement their flowers for inflicting a much-needed change in communities across the country by providing mentorship and opportunities for young Black children.

National CARES Mentoring Movement founder Susan Taylor Batten, has been recognized for venturing on a legacy of partnering with organizations to navigate transformational acquisitions to help marginalized Black neighborhoods. She has also seamlessly advocated for elevated education and mentorship programs for Black children.

Fellow attendees included Courtney B. Vance, Dr. Trisha Bailey, Tina Knowles, Kenny Lattimore, Roland Martin, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Rev. Al Sharpton, Susan Taylor Batten, and Grace Vandecruze.
