Reports read that 11 year old’s call instantly resulted in a school-wide lockdown including the arrival of law enforcement personnel and specialty units. Authorities confirmed that there was no gunman or weapons discovered on the premises and that no one was injured.
Thankfully, it had been determined that all staff members and students were accounted for. They were able to return to their classrooms after being conducting an immediate evacuation.
Soon after detectives moved to investigate who initiated the 911. They were ultimately led to a student at the school.
A student denied calling 911, noting that he had left his phone including his book bag when he went to the school’s clinic. It was determined that an 11-year-old boy used his friend’s phone to call 911 and report an active shooter, says deputies.
According to the sheriff’s office, multiple people were able to identify the 11 year old as the caller while noting that he told fellow students earlier that day he wanted to go to the school’s clinic so his parents could pick him up early.
The young boy was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail.
“This student put fear into his fellow students, staff, and parents. And for what? A prank? Because you wanted to go home?” said Sheriff Billy Woods in an issued statement.
“I will not tolerate my young citizens being fearful of going to school because you wanted to be a ‘jokester’ in hopes of going home. The law requires that any person who makes these types of false reports pay restitution for the cost of the law enforcement response which, in this case, will equal hundreds upon hundreds of man-hours. This young man is going to need to mow a lot of lawns to pay that bill.”
