Cousins! Do y’all remember the white New Jersey male who went viral back in 2021 after referring to his Black neighbors as a string of racial slurs including “monkeys” and “n*****s” while also hurling threats of violence? Well it looks like he’ll have more than enough time to ponder over the consequences of his actions after being sentenced to eight years in the slammer!

47-year-old Edward C. Matthews, of Mount Laurel New Jersey, received an 8-year sentence earlier this month after pleading guilty to four counts of bias intimidation including possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute.

According to NBC News, an official investigation was launched in July of 2021 as prosecutors learned of a harassment complaint filed with the Mount Laurel Police Department against Edward.

It wasn’t long before authorities were called to Edward’s neighborhood following an alert that a male needed to be removed from the area. Upon officers’ arrival Edward was discovered in a rant using racial slurs against four Black residents while also threatening to conduct acts of violence against them.

Videos of Edward went viral on social media as he can be seen calling a Black male resident a “monkey” and a “nigger” while bumping his chest and spitting in his direction. Within the clips, Edward bragged about running Black residents out of the neighborhood and insisted that the police couldn’t do anything against him.

In response to the videos, large crowds of people showed up at Edward’s home standing outside for hours in union.

Following the investigation authorities determined that Edward had been a longtime menace within the neighborhood as he harassed many Black residents. Edward is said to have left threatening notes on people’s cars, thrown feces on some of their properties, and continued to refer to them as racial slurs.

After a search of Edward’s home, officials are said to have discovered psilocin mushrooms in his home. The drug is known to cause hallucinations.

It has been indicated that a judge ruled for Edward to carry out an 8 year prison sentence on top of his 2 1/2 years served; with a mandatory 4 years behind bars.

“Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future,” said Edward to the judge in astatement. “I want to commit to rebuild the community.”

He is said to have lost his home and his wife who filed divorce while he’s been in prison.
