Fresh off the heels of Joey Bada$$’ sophomore album 2000 is his single, “Zipcodes,” !

His other record, “Where I Belong,” premiered over two weeks ago. In just four minutes, the rapper spits eloquently over a 90’s inspired boom-bap beat. His lyrical context is about counting blessings. Furthermore, “Zipcodes” sheds light on what it means to keep your nose to the grindstone.

“Life is too short/We came a long way,” he raps. Joey Bada$$ also spits, “I’m up late nights and early mornings/I got a little buzz, I can’t afford to miss my callin’ now/Be the first to arrive and last to leave.”

Deeper into “Zipcodes,” the 1999 musician confidently raps about his excellence and longstanding career in the hip-hop game. Every often, Joey Bada$$ gets reflective about his progression as an artist and individual. He takes the time to tell his rap peers “to throw they shade from far away.” In other words, there’s no raining on his parade. Joey is fully aware of his talents and how far it has taken him.

If rap was a stock, I have a hundred million in evaluation/A hundred thousand hours, and you n–s only master masturbation,” he spits. “Y’all some pros at procrastination (Hahaha)/I tax those who act slow, never had patience (Never had).”

In one piece of “Zipcodes,” Bada$$ pays his respects to MF Doom, who tragically passed in 2020.

All AmeriKKKan Bada$$ dropped around 2017, making it five years since he’s had an LP out. 2000 was initially set to drop on June 17th but was slated due to sample clearances.

Several fans on YouTube shared their feelings on Joey’s “Zipcodes.” One user said, “Joey always had that 90’s vibe stuck with him.” Another user guarantees 2000 will be topping the charts in no time after its release.

Sean Stroman wrote, “Joey really batting 4 for 4 with all these singles and each one literally more doper than the next. He really finna be in the convo for top 10 Hip Hop album of the year with Push & Lupe (Nas possibly next?!?).”
