A frustrated mother has gone viral on TikTok after she posted a video explaining how American Airlines lost her daughter under their supervision!

Last Saturday, Georgia resident Monica Gilliam’s 12-year-old daughter Kimber was traveling from Chattanooga, Tenn., as an unaccompanied minor to visit her father in Miami, Fl, on board of an American Airlines (AA) flight.

In the TikTok video, which has accumulated 1.8 million views, Monica recounted receiving a call from an AA manager in Miami nearly an hour after the flight landed.

“The manager from American Airlines called and said, ‘Your child is missing. We’ve shut down the terminal. We don’t know where she is.” Gilliam said. “I was like, ‘How did you lose my child? How do you lose an unaccompanied minor?’”

Monica said the airline allowed her daughter to walk off the plane alone. Kimber told her mother that she “felt like she was supposed to get up” when other passengers began to exit the aircraft. A flight attendant even waved goodbye instead of escorting Kimber to her father.

Kimber wandered the airport by herself, scared and confused about what to do. Luckily, she was able to find her father through FaceTime without the help of the AA crew or Miami International Airport employees.

In a statement to PEOPLE, American Airlines emphasized that they “care deeply about our young passengers” and are “committed to providing a safe and pleasant travel experience for them.”

“We take these matters very seriously and are looking into what occurred. A member of our team has reached out to the customer to learn more about their experience,” AA added.

According to AA unaccompanied minor service, children ages 5-14 flying without a parent will be assisted by an airport escort “to help your child to the gate for flight connections” and “escorting the child to the authorized adult picking them up when they land.”

In the video, Gilliam explained that the service requires kids to wear an unaccompanied minor tag on a necklace with the boarding pass and the information of the adult picking them up to verify their identity. Monica was terrified for her daughter being alone in “one of the largest human trafficking hubs in the country.”

Gilliam warned parents about letting their children fly alone, especially with American Airlines.

“I don’t want this to happen to anybody else, and if your child is flying an unaccompanied flight with American Airlines, then consider that,” Gilliam concluded in the video. “It’s not OK, and it shouldn’t happen.”
