Queen Latifah Speaks On Being A Black Woman In The Industry And Taking Control Of Her Physical Representation!

Cousins!

There are literally a million and one reasons why we all love actress and artist Queen Latifah . On the very top of that countless list is definitely how she’s always taken a stance for Black women and of course her bomb and glowing natural tresses!

In a recent interview with Essence magazine, Queen Latifah spoke on her personal journey within the entertainment industry and how she learned early in her career to take control of her own physical appearance and representation.

“When I went on television, I started doing my hair so often because I had an album out at the same time I was doing the show so my hair was getting done four or five times a week – getting pressed and pressed.”

My edges started breaking and I was like ‘Yo! Now you’re talking to ‘Hip-Hop’s Queen Latifah’, not Khadijah. So I was like, ‘I ain’t about to lose my edges over no show.’ I was like ‘Nah my edges is breaking, it’s not happening.”

Queen Latifah also revealed that she didn’t have enough money to hire a personal stylist early on in her career but that point in time taught her about natural hair care within its full complexity.
