Noir Nation; the McRib is back in the headlines, and this time it’s not for nostalgia.
McDonald’s is facing a class action lawsuit over its iconic McRib, and the allegations have fans doing a double take.
According to The Independent, plaintiffs Peter Le, Charles Lynch, Dorien Baker, and Derrick Wilson claim the sandwich is misleadingly marketed — alleging the McRib does not actually contain rib meat despite its name. The complaint states the product is made from “restructured pork,” reportedly combining shoulder, heart, tripe, and scalded stomach.
Court documents further allege that McDonald’s molded the processed pork patty to resemble ribs, creating what plaintiffs describe as a “false expectation” for customers expecting real rib meat.
In response to the forwarded claims, a spokesperson for McDonald’s has come forward.
“This lawsuit distorts the facts and many of the claims are inaccurate. Food quality and safety are at the heart of everything we do – that’s why we’re committed to using real, quality ingredients across our entire menu,” the spokesperson said.
“Our fan-favorite McRib sandwich is made with 100 percent pork sourced from farmers and suppliers across the U.S. We’ve always been transparent about our ingredients so guests can make the right choice for them,” the statement concluded.
The lawsuit is seeking class certification for McRib buyers nationwide over the past four years. If approved, anyone who purchased the sandwich during that time could be eligible to join the case, which is seeking damages, restitution, and injunctive relief.
