Noir Nation, Mary J. Blige just secured a major W after a judge dismissed the $5M lawsuit filed by longtime friend and stylist Misa Hylton. The court called out what it described as “bad faith tactics” and noted Misa missed the deadline to respond, saying it “constitutes the abandonment of her claims.”

As previously reported, Misa alleged Mary tried to take rapper Vado from her management company. However the court made it clear these claims won’t stand when abandoned mid-process.

Judge Phaedra F. Perry-Bond wrote, “The court in no way condones parties filing lawsuits claiming millions in damages based on inflammatory accusations, only to have those very same parties abandon their allegations when faced with a motion to dismiss and sanctions.”

Adding that, “Plaintiffs and their counsel shall consider this a warning to refrain from engaging in similar patterns of behavior in the future.”

“This written warning may serve as weighty evidence on a future application for sanctions if plaintiffs and/or their counsel continue to engage in similar bad faith litigation tactics.”

Misa and Mary’s legal battle started in spring 2025 when Hylton claimed Blige tried to coerce rapper Vado to leave her management to sign with Blige’s company, Beautiful Life Productions. Vado had a 20% agreement with Hylton’s M.I.S.A. Management, while his recording contract was with Blige’s company. Hylton alleged Blige held meetings without her, including “late night yacht outings” and hotel rooms, and that she interfered with her business relationship with Vado.

Blige’s team denied all allegations, noting Hylton wasn’t a licensed talent agent, her company wasn’t a valid corporation, and the delay in Vado’s music was due to his failure to deliver marketable material. They also claimed Hylton took a commission from a $300K payment to Vado. Judge Perry-Bond sided with Blige, dismissing the case and warning against filing lawsuits based on inflammatory accusations that are later abandoned.
