The shooting occurred during an ICE operation, with federal officials claiming the officer acted in self-defense. However, community members and civil rights advocates have disputed that narrative, demanding transparency and an independent investigation.
Kamala Harris Calls for Accountability
Former Vice President Kamala Harris addressed the tragedy on social media, expressing sympathy for the victim’s family and calling the incident deeply disturbing. Harris emphasized the importance of a fair, thorough, and trusted investigation, stating that the public deserves clear answers about how the fatal encounter unfolded.
“Today in Minneapolis, ICE agents shot and killed a woman in a shocking incident. Governor Walz has announced the state will ensure a fair investigation, and I am grateful for his swift action. Many of us have seen the horrifying and painful video, which makes it clear that the Trump administration’s explanation of this shooting is pure gaslighting. A full and fair investigation at the state level is absolutely necessary.”
She also voiced support for state and local officials pursuing an independent review, stressing that accountability is essential to maintaining public trust — especially in cases involving federal law enforcement.
Jasmine Crockett Speaks Out on Justice and Humanity
Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett also took to social media to respond, sharing her heartbreak over the loss of life and condemning what she described as a growing pattern of excessive force.
Crockett underscored the need for transparency and equal justice, questioning why fatal encounters involving law enforcement too often leave families without closure. In her remarks, she urged leaders to center humanity over politics and allow investigators to follow the facts wherever they lead.
“Renee Good was murdered in broad daylight, and Republicans are acting as if it is ok. Where is your decency? Where is your humanity? When will y’all develop a backbone and actually represent the people that sent you here?”
Her response quickly gained traction online, with many praising her for speaking plainly about the emotional toll these incidents continue to have on communities nationwide.
Trump Defends ICE Agent’s Actions
Donald Trump, however, offered a sharply different response.
In posts shared on his platform Truth Social, Trump referred to the Renee as an aggressor and defended the ICE officer’s actions, aligning with the Department of Homeland Security’s account of the incident. He framed the shooting as a matter of officer safety and reiterated his longstanding support for aggressive immigration enforcement.
“I have just viewed the clip of the event which took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is a horrible thing to watch. The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self defense. Based on the attached clip, it is hard to believe he is alive, but is now recovering in the hospital.”
He continued, “The situation is being studied, in its entirety, but the reason these incidents are happening is because the Radical Left is threatening, assaulting, and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE Agents on a daily basis. They are just trying to do the job of MAKING AMERICA SAFE. We need to stand by and protect our Law Enforcement Officers from this Radical Left Movement of Violence and Hate!”
