Noir Nation, the plot thickens in NOLA! Two women have just been arrested for helping inmates escape the Orleans Parish jail — and the details are WILD!
According to FOX 8 News, Louisiana State Police have confirmed that two women were taken into custody for allegedly aiding and abetting several escapees from the Orleans Justice Center — the same correctional facility that made headlines earlier this month after 10 inmates pulled off a bold breakout.
Sources state Courtnie Harris of New Orleans, 32, and Corvanntay Baptiste of Slidell, 38, have both been booked with accessory after the fact to the May 16 escape.
Courtnie is accused of being in contact by phone assisting with one of the five fugitives still at large. Investigators said Harris was in contact with the inmate before the jailbreak, and later drove two of the escapees to “multiple locations in New Orleans” while they were on the loose. It hasn’t yet been disclosed which inmate she is associated with.
Authorities state that Corvanntay was in contact by phone as well as social media assisting capture inmate Corey Boyd, who was arrested Tuesday night in the 1400 block of Iberville Street in New Orleans. Troopers say she also brought food to Boyd while he was hiding in a residence.
Both women were booked into the Plaquemines Parish Detention Center after their arrests. They could face up to five years in state prison if convicted.
🚔 THE ESCAPE:
The jailbreak reportedly took place on May 16, when the inmates managed to remove a sink and crawl through a hole in the wall — evading capture for nearly 7 hours before guards realized they were gone. 👀
Since then, authorities have been on high alert, and the ongoing investigation has already led to multiple suspensions within the jail, an arrest of a maintenance worker, and now these two women allegedly helping the escapees on the outside.
💬 WHAT POLICE ARE SAYING:
Officials claim the women were “actively providing food and transportation” to the fugitives while they were on the run. Both have since been booked into the Plaquemines Parish Detention Center and are now facing up to five years in prison if convicted.
“They can change course,” said NOPD Supt. Anne Kirkpatrick to Fox 8. “So, if they are acting out of fear, if they are participating in any way and they decide, ‘No, I don’t want to be a part of this,’ we can help them by calling us. And we will help them get out of this snare.”
The Louisiana Stat Polic Department has also warned, “Those who choose to assist or conceal these individuals are violating the law and will be held accountable. Harboring fugitives threatens the safety of our communities and will not be tolerated.”
📍 WHERE THINGS STAND NOW:
- Five of the ten escapees have been recaptured
- A total of three jail employees have been suspended
- One maintenance worker has been arrested
- Two women have now been accused of assisting the fugitives
The remaining escapees are still at large, and police are urging the public to come forward with any information.
