California health officials have recently issued an alert to consumers noting that a voluntary recall regarding Raw Farms LLC. cream top whole milk, as bird flu was detected in a sample!
According to reports from CBS News, Raw Farm issued a voluntary recall of Raw Milk lot ID #20241109 with a Best Buy date of November 27, 2024.
“Out of an abundance of caution, and due to the ongoing spread of bird flu in dairy cows, poultry, and sporadic human cases, consumers should not consume any of the affected raw milk,” reads a news release.
“Customers should immediately return any remaining product to the retail point of purchase. CDPH is also notifying retailers to remove the affected raw milk from their shelves.”
Sources state that there have been no reported illnesses at this time associated with the raw milk product. However, they have warned customers to not consume any possibly affected milk. They also advise anyone in possession of the milk to return it to the store they purchased it from.
Health officials explain that drinking raw milk containing bird flu is not the only way a person can become sick. If a person comes in contact with the virus and touches their eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands they can become ill.
Symptoms include but are not limited to red eyes or discharge, cough, sore throat runny nose, diarrhea, vomiting, body aches, headaches, fatigue, trouble breathing, and fever.
California state has reported nearly 30 human cases of bird flu since October. It has been indicated that 28 of those cases have derived from contact with infected dairy cows.
“The County of Santa Clara Public Health Laboratory identified the bird flu in the raw milk and the California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory System verified the case.”
