U.S Attorney For The Southern District Of New York And Prosecutor Of Diddy And Mayor Eric Adams, Damian Williams Announces His Resignation!

U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) Damian Williams has often been recognized for his pursuit of attaining high-profile criminal prosecution cases and arrests throughout his career. However, Damian has succeeded in leaving the public stunned this week as he announced his official resignation from office!

According to NBC New York, Damian revealed details of his departure on Monday, November 25th. The chief federal law enforcement officer confirmed that his resignation will go into effect on December 13, 2024, at 11:59PM.

News of Damian’s departure has inflicted mixed reactions across social media following gained interest in the prosecution of pivotal public figures including music mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, Senator Bob Menendez, and Mayor Eric Adams.

His deputy, Edward Kim will take over the office as acting U.S. Attorney following his anticipated resignation.

“Today is a bittersweet day for me, as I announce my resignation as United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York,” Damian said in a statement.

 “It is bitter in the sense that I am leaving my dream job, leading an institution I love that is filled with the finest public servants in the world.  It is sweet in that I am confident I am leaving at a time when the Office is functioning at an incredibly high level – upholding and exceeding its already high standard of excellence, integrity, and independence.”

Reports read that Damian’s resignation was expected as transition for the Trump administration begins to take order. President-elect Donald Trump who is scheduled to take office on January 20, 2025, has recently announced his nomination for former SEC Chair Jay Clayton to succeed Damian.

As Manhattan’s top federal prosecutor, the U.S. attorney position is one of the most high-profile in the country, reports NBC New York.
