Cousins! A federal judge has ruled to dismiss felony charges against two ex-Louisville police officers following the 2020 murder of Breonna Taylor!
Joshua Jaynes and Sgt. Kyle Meany was federally charged in 2022 with submitting a false affidavit to search Taylor’s home ahead of the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department’s raid, reports CNN.
Court documents issue details how Jaynes and Meany worked together to create a “false cover story in an attempt to escape responsibility for their roles in preparing the warrant affidavit that contained false information.” The charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.
US District Court Judge Charles Simpson ruled on Thursday, August 22nd that Breonna’s boyfriend Kenneth Walker’s decision to open fire as the police entered their home serves as the “legal cause of her death.” Reports read that Kenneth released multiple shots, as the officers entered their home unannounced. The police then responded with rapid gunfire and ultimately shot Breonna multiple times.
“There is no direct link between the warrantless entry and Taylor’s death,” says Judge Simpson.
