Cousins! The inmate currently facing multiple charges for stabbing former police officer Derek Chauvin declares that symbolism served as a motive behind his attack!
According to reports from Law and Crime John Turscak, informed the FBI that he intentionally attacked Derek on November 24, Black Friday.
He explained his objective, that the day “was symbolic with the Black Lives Matter movement and the ‘Black Hand’ character associated with the Mexican Mafia criminal organization.”
The 52-year-old is facing charges of attempted murder, assault to commit murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
Authorities state that Derek used an “improvised knife” as a weapon to stab Derek a total of 22 times within the law library at the Tuscon Federal Correctional Institution in Arizona.
Reports read that multiple guards intervened to stop the attack against Derek, who endured severe bodily injuries. John is said to have informed authorities that he had plans to kill Derek but explains officials had stepped in too quickly.
Sources state that John later waived his rights to remain silent and denied wanting to kill the ex-cop. However, he admitted that he thought about it for a month because Derek identifies as a high-profile inmate.
According to CBS News, John is currently serving a 30-year sentence in prison for crimes committed while working as a federal informant. He is also said to have been a member of the Mexican Mafia gang during the 1990s era.
“He admitted to authorizing assaults on people who broke gang rules and to collecting money for the gang from drug dealers in exchange for protection and permission to traffic narcotics. Federal authorities recruited him to help them bring down the Mexican Mafia,” reports BET News.
