Gunman Identified In HBCU Kentucky State University Shooting That Claimed The Life Of 19-Year-Old Student And Left Another In Critical Condition!

Noir Nation, a heartbreaking tragedy has shaken the campus of Kentucky State University after an on-campus shooting left one student deceased and another hospitalized in critical condition!

The tragic series of event unfolded Tuesday afternoon, December 9th near Whitney M. Young Jr. Hall, a residence hall on the south side of the historic HBCU’s campus, reports CNN.

Authorities responded to a 911 call of an “active aggressor” just around 3 p.m. prompting university officials to issue an immediate lockdown as students and staff sheltered in place. When police arrived, they discovered two students suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were rushed to to a local hospital as a medical teams fought to save their lives. Sadly 19 year old De’Jon Darrell Fox Jr did not survive; while the second student remains in critical but stable condition.

Officials have identified 48 year old Jacob Lee Bard of Evansville, Indiana, he was taken into custody at the scene. It has been confirmed that Jacob is not a student or employee of the university. He is now facing multiple charges, including murder and first-degree assault. Investigators believe the incident was isolated, though a motive has yet to be released.

KSU leadership called the shooting a “senseless act of violence” and announced that classes, exams, and campus events have been canceled for the remainder of the week. Counseling services and crisis teams are being made available as students, faculty, and alumni sort through emotions of grief, fear, and confusion.

Reports have determined that this is the second shooting near the same residence hall within months, raising renewed concerns about safety measures on campus and the steps needed to protect students at historically Black institutions.

As the investigation continues, students and community members are organizing vigils and support efforts to honor the life lost and stand in solidarity with the survivors.
