According to Hollywood Reporter, John’s son K.C. shared that the 84-year-old passed away on August 21 in his Los Angeles-based home due to natural causes.
“It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned,” reads a forwarded statement. “He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold… and he was loved the world over. Many fans consider him their TV father. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor.”
USA TODAY News reports that John’s cause of death was due to congestive heart failure. According to an obtained death certificate John passed away in a Los Angeles-area hospital on Aug. 21.
Sources state that the ‘Good Times’ star suffered from the condition years prior to his passing. Digestive heart failure “is caused by the heart’s inability to circulate adequate blood and oxygen to the body’s organs,” reports USA TODAY News.
It has been stated that no other significant conditions that attributed to John’s and that he was cremated nine days later.
John’s legacy in the entertainment industry spans over forty years as he brought to life countless characters in both film and television.
