Late last month, a viral cell phone video displayed a petite 4ft 8in inch tall woman, Shantel Arnold, being bullied and assaulted by a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy!
Unfortunately for Miss Arnold, this was the second attack against her, on the same day, within minutes of her last involuntary tussle.
According to YAHOO, Ms Arnold can only see out of one eye and her stature makes her an easy target for bullies in her neighborhood. Without cell phone video footage, one might think Arnold was ‘Erika Jayne-ing’ us a bit (aka capping), with her story of back to back assaults by two different people within moments of each other while on her way home. However in this case, it’s a true story with reports to back it.
Arnold had just been surrounded, slammed to the ground and hit by a group of boys, who filmed their aggression towards her on their cell phones and laughed. It was her 71 year old grandfather, who came to her rescue and the boys relented, then took off.
As she continued home to collect herself, she was 20 feet away from her family’s driveway when she was approached by her second attacker. Deputy Julio Alvarado, who is currently at the center of nine federal civil rights lawsuits for excessive force abuses, reports 4WWL.
Deputy Alvarado rolled up to the curb and asked her what had happened, demanding she stop and speak to him. Arnold shared she was just attacked and just wanted to go home. She continued on as she was almost there.
It was then the disturbed deputy launched his attack. Arnold’s step father, Lion Gray, details the ordeal, “She didn’t have a chance to pull away because, you know, this guy was strong. He grabbed her arm and some kind of move he made, and she went down to the ground. So I was walking up to him, and he told me, ‘If you come any closer, I’m going to kick everybody’s ass out here.’ So, I said … ‘You don’t have to use that type of force on that little woman right there; she’s a midget.’ ” reports YAHOO.
In the video, you clearly see the very heavy set deputy add insult to injury, dragging Arnold by a handful of her braids; her minuscule frame was immediately airborne. Still strongly gripping her hair, the portly deputy proceeds to savagely flick her and slam her head towards the pavement and sharply kneel his full weight into her side.
Other responding deputies who arrived called an ambulance and she was brought to the hospital and treated for her injuries, which included bruises, scratches and a busted lip. She has patches of hair missing as well, she told the media. An internal investigation has been launched into this (hoodlum) deputy.
