Cousins! Ohio police have charged a white 81-year-old male following the brutal shooting of a Black Uber driver he said he believed had been working with an unidentified person to scam him!
Officials state that William Brock informed investigators that he had brutally shot Loeltha Hall outside of his home last month on March 25th as he thought she had been working with a man who had contacted him initially posing as an officer at a local court, says Lieutenant Kristopher Shultz of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
NBC News reports that the person who had contacted William had also requested an Uber ride to his home located in South Charleston to pick up the money. “Ms. Hall did not have any idea,’ added Lt Shultz.
“Mr. Brock received some scam call by a person purporting to be someone from our courts who informed him a family member was incarcerated and that he had a bond of a significant amount of money,” Shultz said.
“The calls turned from ‘I’m an officer in the court’ to ‘We have this subject hostage, this is a ransom demand.'”
The 61-year-old had been approached upon her arrival at Williams’s home as he confronted her with a gun and asked who was she working for. Lt Shultz says that William had taken Loeltha’s cell phone and blocked her from getting in her vehicle and driving away.
“When she tried to get away, he shot her once, then there was more exchange between them,” Shultz added.
“Mr. Brock was at some point injured to his head, and he shot Ms. Hall a second time. There was more conversation, and then he shot her a third time. Only after he shot her a third time did he then make contact with authorities to report the incident.”
Loeltha didn’t threaten Williams, nor did she assault him or have a weapon, reads a police report filed with the Clark County Municipal Court.
Uponthe officer’s arrival, William was discovered bleeding with an injury to his head and ear. After being shot multiple times she was taken to a nearby hospital located in Dayton where she sadly, passed away from her injuries.
Following Loeltha’s tragic death, Uber released a statement confirming that they had spoken with Loeltha’s loved ones.
“This is a horrific tragedy and our hearts continue to be with Loletha’s loved ones as they grieve,” an Uber spokesperson said. “We have been in contact with law enforcement and remain committed to supporting their investigation.”
The company also confirms that the account of the person who ordered the car to William’s home has been permanently banned.
Authorities have not yet identified the person responsible for requesting the Uber pick-up services. They also haven’t disclosed whether or not any additional arrests have been made within the case at this time.
Following a Grand Jury scheduled presentation on Monday, Williams has been indicted on multiple charges of murder and one count of felonious assault; including a count of kidnapping.
Sources state that he will be arraigned on the declared charges later this week.
William was initially arrested for a murder charge in the Municipal Court of Clark County on Wednesday, he is said to have posted a $200,000 bail bond.
If convicted he could face 15 years to life in prison or a $15,000 fine.
