Noir Nation, the entertainment industry has taken a tremendous blow following confirmed reports that music giant Quincy Jones has passed away at 91 years old!
Quincy passed away late Sunday evening on November 3rd, within his Los Angeles-based home located in Bel Air, reports the Associated Press. Quincy’s publicist Arnold Robinson confirms that he was surrounded by his loved ones at the time of his passing.
“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing,” reads a forwarded statement from Quincy’s family. “And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”
According to PEOPLE, Quincy is survived by his children : Rashida Jones, Kidada Jones, Kenya Kinski-Jones, Quincy Jones III, Jolie Jones Levine, Martina Jones, and Rachel Jones; including his grandchildren: Isaiah Jones Koenig, Quincy Renzo Delight Jones IV and Nea Jones. Quincy is also the godfather to beloved actor and musician Quincy Brown who he was named after.
With an extensive resume spanning nearly six decades, Quincy is recognized as one of the most influential producers and composers in the game, initially rising to fame as a trumpet player.
The Chicago native is recognized for his countless contributions to music including iconic collaborations with Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, and numerous others.
He also holds the record of being the second most Grammy-nominated artist of all time with eighty nominations and twenty-eight total wins since 1961.
Quincy commemorates early memories of his childhood and upbringing for his love of music.
Within his 2001 released autobiography ‘Q’, Quincy recalled breaking into a recreation center with friends as a kid and stumbling upon a music room equipped with a piano on a stage.
“I went up there, paused, stared, and then tinkled on it for a moment,” he wrote in his autobiography. “That’s where I began to find peace. I was 11. I knew this was it for me. Forever.”
