Cousins! Popular influencer Jayda Cheaves has seemingly had a change of heart following backlash she received for copying a Black fashion designer’s swimsuit line!

As we previously reported, a social media user called out Jayda on Twitter (X) upon claims of copying her friend’s swimsuit design. The woman says that Jayda was paid to promote a swimsuit back in 2020, and has been seen more recently modeling a fairly similar design.

“You really see stuff like this happen all the time with influencers stealing designs from black owned businesses but this is hitting different,” wrote the social media user.

“My friend @imonlycai literally makes each swimsuit BY HAND and here go Jayda stealing it and sending it to CHINA for production!!

“MY FRIEND WAS MAKING THESE SWIMSUITS BY HAND WHILE IN NURSING SCHOOL!!! IT NEVER GAVE DUMMY OR RAPPER BM!!! EAUNOIRSWIM BEEN HAVING MOTION!! @imonlycai”

Jayda was asked about the online chaos via Snapchat as she had been promoting the bikini as an upcoming design set for release on her website. “oooou jayda you wrong, why the pulling receipts of your stealing this from someone you was paid to do promo for! i love you but come onnnn and i love the yellow swim suit why jayyyy.”

The Waydamin founder responded, “Oh it’s NO shade. The girl i promoted back in 2020 was on the mood board for this summers swim. That’s what fashion is about remaking and recreating. It’s no shade at all. I never take offense when I’m on somebody’s mood board, it’s how it go”

Jayda added in another post,”Ain’t no tea to clock! I PAY RESPECT WHERE ITS DUE. NOW NEXT 😘”

However after being dragged online, the following day Jayda shared that she has since apologized and decided to not sell the bikini a part of her website.

“Hi! I just want to say that I am very sorry about all of this. I realized you weren’t selling the bikinis anymore since 2021 so I didn’t think it would be a big deal since there’s plenty other brands with that same concept,” Jayda began.

“I definitely understand how this made you feel because Ive been a victim of things like this before & I’d hate to not go about this the right way without taking the accountability as a black female business owner as well. I say all that to say I will NOT be selling the swimsui that was inspired by your company. wish you and your brand the best and much success. Maybe one day we can collaborate on something even hotter. Xoxo, sorry again,” she wrote.”

Despite her lengthy apology, fans weren’t so open to forgiving and forgetting as they continued to ask Jayda about taking accountability for her actions.

“Hi Jayda, firstly I’m a fan. I would really love if you responded with more accountability regarding this situation instead of dismissing the girl as a ‘hater’ or co-signing that angle. She had a reason to feel a way about what happened.”

Jayda responded, “Woah now! I’m not dismissing her i apologized and moved on. I stopped production (WHICH NOBODY WOULDVE DONE) idk what more yall want from me. Nothing im saying is about her it’s about the outside world DRAGGING a situation that technically never got no where cuz i never sold not one bikini. It’s done. Let it go Elsa.”
