Cousins! Taraji P. Henson is asking fans to give celebrities grace when seeing them in public and to not automatically deem it as a photo opportunity!

While taking part in Mary J Blige’s Strength of a Woman summit in New York City on May 11th, the beloved actress expressed that oftentimes fans don’t see celebs as human beings just as public figures.

“Y’all don’t see us as real people,” Taraji began. “ You can catch me coming from the grocery store, yes nobody is around me—and yes I do my own grocery shopping—yes because I do my own cooking.”

She continued“But you have to realize when you see me in that grocery story I’m trying to do the same thing you doing.”

“ I did not forget to send out a tweet to say “HEY! Meet me at Kroger’s I’m taking pictures,” Taraji joked.

“ I am being funny. But you never know, you know.”

Though the support is real and greatly appreciated, Taraji asks that fans try to understand where they are coming from too.

“They are human beings just like everybody else. They should be able to go out and do their earrings or with their family and not be bothered,” wrote a social media user. “I used to work at a very high-end mall in Florida so famous people used to come in there all the time when they’re doing concerts, comedy shows, some of them had houses there in the area. I never asked for autograph and when they came in my store, I treated them like they were another customer and respect their privacy.”

Taraji joined fellow celebrities and friends Angie Martinez, Tasha Smith and Mary at the Glass House for the ‘Girl Talk With MJB’ panel. Together the ladies held an open discussion amongst attendees regarding life, relationships, sisterhood and more.
