Beloved R&B songstress Anita Baker is urging fans to stop buying and/or streaming her catalogue of hits as she’s currently battling her label for her masters!

The iconic singer took to Twitter in a series of tweets where she provided details of how she outlived her dated contract and is rightfully owed her masters, reports Essence.

Copyright reversion consists of an artists ability to regain possession of a copyright of their own body of work after a specified period of time noted in their contract with their record label.

However, initially master recordings aren’t owned by an artist due to the fact that record labels forward the money to produce and promote their albums. Artists are compensated through record sales and touring.

In Anita’s case she has outlived the precedents of her contract and instead of receiving her masters the royalties of her music are being paid elsewhere.

“They no longer ‘Own’ My Name & Likeness,” she wrote. “And, by Law…30 yr old, Mstrs are 2B Returned, 2 Me,” reads Anita’s tweet.

In a response to a fan Anita broke down streaming service rates and called out streaming companies for being “ thieves in a temple.”

“Hello Sweetheart Thank You 4 Sending Me, Your Love. But, let’s not Advertise *Spotify Streaming, which is, a Publicly Traded Company, with a 50 Million$ Valuation… but doesn’t pay Artists/Creators what their Worth.”
