Cousins! A potentially heartwarming moment shared between Drew Barrymore and Vice President Kamala Harris has gone viral on social media y’all!

‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ kicked the week off with a special guest appearance by VP Harris where the two women discussed numerous topics including family. Kamala was asked about her relationship with her husband Doug Emhoff’s two children Cole and Ella, whom he shares from a previous marriage and why they don’t use the term “stepmom.”

Kamala jokingly shared that the term stepmom didn’t get quite a good rep due to Disney movies. “ You know, for a lot of us over the years, ( there was) the evil stepparent.” She said that instead, “their word for me is, ‘Momala’

Drew expressed that Kamala and Doug’s family dynamic was commendable and symbolized how as a vice president she has the ability to bring people throughout the country together while suggesting that she takes on the role of ‘Momala’

“I’ve been thinking that we really all need a tremendous hug in the world right now,” said Drew. “..but in our country, we need you to be Mamala of the country.”

Following Drew’s interesting take on words, VP Harris responded by saying “yeah,” with a smile followed up by a short laugh.

The clip has since circulated through social media while also making major headlines as folks have labeled Drew’s statement as “cringeworthy.”

“CRINGE. STRAIGHT INTO MY VEINS,”wrote one Twitter (X) user.

“People really still want black women to be the “mammy” of the country. It’s unbelievable,” another Twitter (X) user wrote.

As further discussions surrounding Drew and VP Harris conversation, social media users explained that the term ‘Mamala’ was terribly similar to the slave term “Mammy”

Mammy which blends together the words “ma’am” and “mama” dates all the way back to the unforgettable terrors of slavery ,where Black women were ordered to care for white children.

“”Mamala of the country” sounds a whole lot like mammy to me. The VP’s facial expression makes me wonder what she really thought. Also, people will clap for anything. Drew Barrymore wasn’t deep and that’s not anything that we asked for,” wrote a Twitter (X) user.
