Cousins! You could be adding a new paid subscription to your list of bills following circulating reports that Target is currently considering a membership program!

According to Bloomberg, Target is presently designing a membership for their customers that aligns closely with programs affiliated with Amazon and Walmart. The internal project has been identified as ‘Project Trident’ set to launch sometime this year, reports the NY Post.

Though minimal details have been forwarded at this time, retailers usually provide customers with access to additional discounts, deals, and delivery services through paid membership programs.

In 2017 Target debuted Target Circle, a free loyalty program for customers. The program allows shoppers to obtain easy access to discounts and gain 1% on purchases. With an accumulation of points, shoppers can use their 1% to make future purchases.

NY Post reports that Target’s overall sales have hit a wall in the mast year as customers have cut-back spending in certain areas.

Bloomberg says that Project Trident could also collaborate with Shoot, an online business that provides customers with grocery deliveries.

Amazon Prime memberships cost $14.99, or $139.00 for their yearly plan. While Walmart plus plan begins at $12.95 or $98.00 for a yearly plan.

“Walmart has Walmart plus which is Amazon prime for Walmart with cash back and rewards on your account. Walmart is still open to the public. Target is already overpriced though couldn’t see the value in this,” wrote a social media user on Twitter (X).

“No – the membership fees in all areas of corporate are over the top. Everything is a monthly now. People have a monthly cancel anytime fee for more things than they can count on both hands 🙌.”

“With Amazon Prime I get tons of movies, tv, documentaries besides my shopping and shipping. Is Target offering online movies. Doubt it.”
