Kansas Mother Charged Following The Death Of Her 1-Month-Old Daughter; Says She Mistakenly Placed Baby In The Oven Instead Of Her Crib!

Cousins! An absolutely shocking incident is making major headlines this week following reports that a Kansas City woman burned her infant child to death after placing her in an oven instead of her crib!

According to ABC News, Missouri resident Mariah Thomas has been charged with a Class A Felony, first-degree endangerment welfare, and murder of her infant child.

“We appreciate all first responders who worked this scene and the prosecutors who went to the scene in order to issue these charges,” says Jackson County prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced Saturday. said in a press release. “We acknowledge the gruesome nature of this tragedy and our hearts are weighted by the loss of this precious life. We trust the criminal justice system to respond appropriately to these awful circumstances.”

Sources state that the child’s grandfather called 911 as he smelt smoke within the household and made a gruesome discovery.

Responding officers were alerted of an incident occurring at a home located at Manheim Park near Kansas City around 1:30 PM on Friday, February 9th. According to court documents , officials were notified of a non-breathing infant.

Authorities state that upon their arrival they discovered the infant with burn wounds and that the child’s diaper had melted into their skin.

The Kansas City Fire Department also responded and shortly pronounced the 1-month child dead at the scene.

Mariah told officers that she had placed her daughter down for a nap and mistakenly placed the child in an oven instead of the crib.

“I thought I put [infant’s name has been removed from public records] in her crib, and I accidentally put her in the oven,” reads a statement from Mariah in court documents. It has been stated that she told her grandfather of the mistake afterward and he communicated the details to authorities.

Mariah is currently in police custody on a $200,000 cash bond. She faces 10 years to life in prison if convicted.

Fox News reports that the conditions of her bond include, no contact with children, medication compliance, and completion of a mental evaluation.

Mariah is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 20 at 10 a.m. for a bond hearing.
