Cousins! We must admit that the early 2000s in us is truly pleased to know that Ashanti and Nelly are giving their love a try again!
After meeting twenty years ago, the couple has officially addressed recent online speculations and theories in confirming that they are a couple again.
The singer and the rapper originally met in 2003 at the Grammys, reports TODAY. After ten years of dating the couple shocked many as they quietly decided to call their relationship quits.
While in conversation with Rasheeda and Kirk Frost on her show Boss Moves with Rasheeda, Nelly was asked the pressing question that fans have been eager for months to know: “So you and Ashanti are back together”?
Nelly was all smiles as he responded, “Yeah. We’re cool again.”
“We cool again. I think it surprised both of us, though. It wasn’t anything that was, like, I don’t think planned. I think we both was pretty much doing what we do. But sometimes being separate, you understand one another more.”
He continued by explaining that their time apart helped them grow and naturally change their views on certain things.
“Sometimes being separate, you understand one another more.”
“We all can be defensive sometimes in our relationships and we know we wrong but we gonna stand on it.”
The St Louis native reflected on how they were both at different places within their careers when they had originally begun with dating and the pressure that they faced as opposed to now.
“You know, before, I felt like both of us were doing what we’re doing career-wise,” said Nelly. “When you got so many people in the middle of it, it can be tough.”
On September 12th Ashanti took the red carpet of MTV’s Video Music Awards by storm as she wore a sheer glitter dress paired with a handbag that displayed a large throwback photo of her and Nelly.
When asked about the picture Ashanti detailed, “This is where we first exchanged numbers. I was like, ‘Oh, this would be cute.'”
“Everything is lining up in the universe,” Ashanti told TODAY. “So I’m happy.”
The 42 year old shared in her Instagram story later that evening that the photograph was a full circle moment where their love story began. “So.. in this pic, we exchanged numbers at the VMAS in 2003..20 years ago lol…”
As we previously reported back in April Nelly and Ashanti were spotted together in Las Vegas as they attended Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia fight.
