Sex offenders have been banned from entering certain evacuation centers in specific counties in Florida as Hurricane Milton begins to make its way!
During tonight’s news conference County Sheriff Rick Staly stated that any individual that has been labeled a sexual predator by the state will not be welcomed at regular shelters in Flagler County, Florida.
He has advised registered offenders to seek shelter at the county jail instead if they are within an evacuation area.
According to reports from News Nation Now, sex offenders will be at risk of receiving felony charges if they attempt to stay at a regular shelter where children are staying.
Reports read that not all counties have decided to ban registered sex offenders. It has been indicated that a separate shelter was announced for those on the registry in Marion County.
Sources state that a 2018 law requires sex offenders to register temporary addresses within three days and also update their driver’s license or ID with the same address 48 hours before departing.
Individuals who fail to take the necessary step will receive a mandatory sentence of six months of GPS monitoring and a maximum of up to five years in prison, reports News Nation Now.
