Cousins! Two teenage sisters have tragically passed away after drowning at a beach in Brooklyn, Newyork!

According to ABC-NY News, officers responded to a 911 call in the area of Stilwell Avenue alongside the boardwalk around 8pm on Friday July 5th.

Bystanders state that the arriving officers searched frantically using their flashlights while running up and down the shoreline in search of the two young girls.

A bystander says that everyone had cleared water and ran from the beach to the restrooms as it began to rain.

The two girls are said to have “entered the water and disappeared from view” at the beach. “The NYPD’s Aviation, Harbor and Scuba units responded to the scene and conducted a search for the individuals,” state the NYPD. “Divers removed both females from the water.”

The victims were later identified as 18-year-old Aisha Mohammed and 17-year-old Zainab Mohammed of the Bronx, reports PEOPLE.

The teens were transported to a local hospital and were later pronounced dead.

Reports read that a 24 year old male had attempted to save the two girls but he couldn’t swim. Other bystanders watched and didn’t enter the water as they were afraid of how rough the currents were.

“A guy, he saw the two little girls asking for help so he tried to help but he also went into the water but he can’t swim either,” said a witness.

Aisha and Zainab were pronounced dead at 930PM EST confirms CBS News.

“I saw a lot of cops and firemen running towards the situation, and then the next thing you know, the family of the victims they go to the same area but were told to go to the boardwalk,”said another witness.

The teen’s father Mohammed Faye told the New York Times that his daughters were at their grandmother’s house when they decided to head to the beach. He says neither of them knew how to swim and that he used to take them to Coney Island when they were younger.

Mohammed said he was notified by police around 8:30 PM that his daughters were missing. He says that he and his entire family rushed to the beach and by the time they arrived at the hospital Zaniab had been pronounced dead as medical officials attempted to save Aisha.

“I wish they would have asked me,” he said. “I would have asked God to take me and leave them.”
