Cousins, the city of New York is honoring Ice Spice in a major way as she gears up to release her very first studio album!
Earlier this week the MTA announced in collaboration with Capitol Records, that they’ll be releasing a total of 50,000 signature metro cards featuring The Bronx rapper in honor of her debut album Y2K.
According to reports from News 12, the limited edition metro cards are available for purchase in select locations.
Customers can purchase their Ice Spice metros at MTA vending machines available only at select MetroCard vending locations.
The limited edition cards are available at the following stations: Fordham Road 4 station, Fordham Road B/D station, 34-Street–Penn Station A/C/E station, and Times Square–42nd Street N/Q/R/W/S/1/2/3/7 train stations.
Ice Spice joins previously featured Hip Hop artists such as LL Cool J and the late Pop Smoke. However according to NBC News, Ice will more than likely be the last musician featured on the cards as the MTA is moving forward with phasing out Metrocards.
Reports read that the MTA will begin fully enforcing contactless fare payments beginning as early as 2025.
The tap to pay system was installed in all NYC subway stations and buses between 2020-2021, according to MTA spokesperson Renee Price.
“The MTA’s Tap to Pay system is replacing MetroCards with more than half of subway rides now routinely paid with contactless devices and cards,” said MTA spokesperson Renee Price said in an issued statement.
The tap to pay system was originally introduced to commuters in 2020-2021, with installed systems presented in train stations and buses across the city.
