We lost another one Cousins. Former child star, Jonshel Alexander, was shot to death Saturday night while in Louisiana. She starred in the 2012 Oscar-nominated film “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” at the tender age of 12. It was nominated for 4 awards, which included Best Picture, reports NY Post.
The director of the film, Benh Zeitlin, shared some touching words with the media about the deceased actress. “She was a really bright burning light. Her character in the film is named Joy Strong, which always seemed like a perfect description of Jonshel”.
Police reports allege that on that fateful day, Alexander and an unidentified male were at 1500 block of North Claiborne Avenue in New Orleans’ Seventh Ward, around 9 p.m, when they were ruthlessly shot inside a vehicle. The male drove himself to the hospital and received help, however 22 year old Alexander was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Her heartbroken mother shared how determined her daughter was to land her starring role, “she was like, ‘I’m going to be in this movie. They fell in love with Jonshel.”
Her fans and family are profoundly devastated by the loss. The late actress is survived by her daughter De-vynne Robinson. Authorities are actively seeking any information or clues from the public that could help solve this senseless murder.
