There’s no place like Harlem! 🙌🏿

Prime video original series HARLEM stars a few big names and familiar faces from Meagan Good (Camille), Tyler Leplay (Ian), Grace Byers (Quinn), Jerrie Johnson (Tye), to Shoniqua Shandai (Angie) , reports TV Line.

We got a chance to sit in on a conversation with Black Print as they kicked it with beloved actress Meagan as she dropped gems on her role of Camille; a super savvy, intellectual, stylish and critical thinking, professor with a dynamic group of friends and a growing complicated soft spot for an ex boyfriend.

“My character Camille identifies with me so well. The role relates so much to my life in many ways and when I read the script, I fell in love.” She shares that like most of us when watching girlfriend related series or films she’s never felt as if she identified with a specific group of female friends excerpt this one because it’s so relatable.

It’s crazy. I read the script, I fell in love with it! I fell in love with Camille. And I went in and I met with Tracy, and in my mind, I was like, “Okay, cool. I think they’re coming to me for this, and if they do, then, like, the answer’s yes.” And then I didn’t hear anything for two weeks, and I was like, “Oh, okay. Maybe they weren’t coming to me.” … I think for me, what it felt like, which might not have been the case, was, I haven’t really played a character like this yet. And a lot of people are not familiar with me in this way. In my 20s, I was really just trying to break out of being a child actor and be like, “I am a woman and I am grown.” So I kind of became the sexy girl, and the love interest, and all of that. And then I really struggled with showing people I’m capable of so much more to share if you just give me a chance. My 30s were a lot of just trying to break the misconception that “Meagan Good is just this,” you know?

says Meagan to Entertainment Weekly.

“I enjoyed working with all of the amazing women. We prayed together and hung out daily during filming; I was really thankful for the women”

Meagan also explains that shooting in Harlem was like a dream come true, There’s no place in New York like Harlem.

Amazon prime has become a popular streaming platform for a lot of upcoming black films and series.

The story behind Harlem is a personal one for series creator Tracy Oliver, who also wrote Girls Trip and serves as showrunner/executive producer on First Wives Club, because she got to write about her own experiences this time around.
The core of the dramedy, which released all 10 episodes Friday, is the friendship between its main ensemble. Camille, a social media expert and Anthropology professor; Tye, a tech entrepreneur and proud masc lesbian; Quinn, a struggling fashion designer who comes from an affluent family; and Angie, a vivacious and gifted singer searching for her big break.

We had the chance to get a lineup of exclusives from the cast at the official premier in NYC earlier this week. Be sure to follow us on Instagram for a behind the scenes look.

Harlem is now available to stream on Amazon Prime. Cousins, will you be tuning in?
