HBCU Prairie View A&M University Establishes Writing Program In Honor Of Toni Morrison!

In honor of the life and legacy of iconic novelist Toni Morrison, HBCU Prairie View A&M University has officially announced the establishment of a curriculum designed program set to empower future writers!

According to News One; the Toni Morrison Writing Program Will appoint a writer in residence who will help develop and introduce students to different genres of African American literature through a variant of workshops and seminars.

Sources have confirmed that the program is set to focus on Morrison’s impactful writing career.

In addition a program in partnership with PVAMU has designed a writing contest designed specifically for high school students with the winner set to receive a scholarship.

A 3 million dollar initiative has been forwarded to fund the program.

Blavity reports the Toni Morrison program is set to provide opportunity for PVAMU students with public readings of Morrison’s written work and other well known writers.

Participants of the program will gain knowledge of the importance of writing, Black writers’ legacy and work of other fellow HBCU alums.

Toni is recognized for her impactful legacy in literature while also being named the very first Black woman to be named an editor at Random House and also win the Nobel Prize for Literature.
