A Houston family is deeply mourning and demanding justice following the devastating loss of a 23-year-old mother to be!
Disturbing new details have surfaced in the case of young mother Ashanti Allen who was just weeks away from giving birth.
According to Fox News 26, she was last heard from on April 10 after sending an alarming text message to her mother around 3:50 AM that immediately.
“I’m leaving I’m not coming back,” read the text.
Ashanti’s mother says the message didn’t sound like her. She went to her daughter’s apartment where she found her purse, inside was her ID and credit cards. She says the apartment was empty and her car was missing from its usual spot.
Investigators say surveillance footage from the apartment complex where both Ashanti and her mother lived shows she was last seen with alongside her child’s father Kevin Faux around 2:25 AM.
A missing person’s report was filed for Ashanti as her family continued to search for answers.
According to reports from Fox 26 Houston, on April 14th a witness notified officials of a FaceTime call where Kevin flashed Ashanti’s lifeless body in a dark wooded area over a video call shortly after she went missing. He is said to have placed the phone on the ground as he continued to drag her body.
The witness told authorities that they hung up and received an incoming text from Kevin that read, “had to fight for my f***ing life” and “Imma felon then I killed a mf.”
By April 16, the search ended in tragedy. Ashanti’s body was discovered near a Houston roadway, confirming what her loved ones feared most. Both Ashanti and her son were ruled dead as police reports confirm she was discovered with a cord wrapped around her neck at least twice.
Reports reveal prior to Ashanti’s tragic death, the suspect had already been arrested in connection to a domestic violence incident involving her. Instead of remaining behind bars, he was released following a plea deal, just weeks before she vanished.
Her family says they were unaware, and now they’re questioning how someone with a known history was given the opportunity to walk free.
After fleeing Texas, the suspect was eventually located and arrested in New Orleans by U.S. Marshals. He now faces a capital murder charge. Reports read he is now waiting to be extradited to Harris County.
Her mother, after viewing her daughter’s remains, spoke out in heartbreak, describing the nightmare she’s been forced to face. “I wanted to see my child’s body. Not going to get into details.”
Ashanti explained that what she learned about the condition of her daughter’s body was far worse than she could’ve ever imagined.
“My child suffered a horrific death. Not what you just read in the report its worse. No mother should see their love done like this.”
We extend our deepest condolences to Ashanti’s loved ones.
