Noir Nation, we’re saddened to report the passing of veteran actor Robert Carradine, widely recognized for his roles in the Revenge of the Nerds franchise and as the on-screen father of Hilary Duff in the hit Disney series Lizzie McGuire.
According to Deadline, Carradine passed away at age 71 in what authorities believe to be an apparent suicide. It has also been revealed that he had been battling bipolar disorder for nearly two decades.
In a heartfelt statement, his family described him as a light in dark times and spoke candidly about his long struggle with mental illness.
They shared that while they are devastated by the loss, they hope his journey encourages more open conversations about mental health and helps break the stigma surrounding it. The statement also asked for privacy as they grieve what they called an “unfathomable loss.”
Carradine’s career spanned decades, leaving a lasting impression across film and television for multiple generations of fans. His family emphasized that despite his private battles, he remained a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend — a “beautiful soul” whose presence will be deeply missed.
