Noir Nation we may be entering the end of an era y’all as both Temu and Shein have announced plans to raise their prices in response to the Trump administration’s trade policies!
In statements issued to their customers on Wednesday ( April 16th), the Chinese online marketplace and fast fashion retailer declared that they will be raising prices on their products beginning next week.
The price change comes after Trump announced that he is working to zero in on low-value imports and increasing expenses for companies known for offering budget-friendly products, reports the New York Post.
“Dear Customers, thank you for your continued support. Since we began serving U.S. shoppers, our goal has been simple: to offer great fashion at affordable prices while creating a positive impact in the communities we serve,” reads statements from Shein and Temu.
“Due to recent changes in global trade rules and tariffs, our operating expenses have gone up. To keep offering the products you love without compromising on quality, we will be making price adjustments starting April 25, 2025.”
The statement continues, “We’re doing everything we can to keep prices low and minimize the impact on you. Our team is working hard to improve your shopping experience and stay true to our mission: making fashion accessible for everyone.”
Sources state that both Temu and Shein’s business models are under attack as they’ve been able to expand in the United States due to a “de minimis” exemption which legally allowed them to keep prices at a low rate.
Trump Tariff policy is set to go in effect on May 2nd.
