Chris Brown is standing on business when it comes to his reputation as he has now filed a 500 million dollar defamation lawsuit in response to a docuseries accusing him of a violent history!
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Chris has taken legal action against the producers of the Investigation Discovery docuseries “Chris Brown: A History of Violence.” The suit accuses Warner Bros. Discovery, Ample Entertainment, and others of promoting and publishing defamatory claims that Chris allegedly raped a woman in 2020.
The 35-year-old argues that producers moved to release the docuseries with defamatory claims despite being provided with proof against the allegations made.
“After being put on notice that their documentary contained false claims and violated journalistic professional standards, Defendants persisted in releasing this Documentary,” reads the complaint.
Chris alongside his legal team has also noted that the woman featured in ‘A History of Violence’ identified as Jane Doe, has previously withdrawn a suit against him and also has a history of providing discredited information on multiple occasions.
Within the issued suit Chris makes it clear that he has never been convicted of any sex-related crimes while also calling out producers for labeling him a “serial rapist and sexual abuser.” Chris states that producers decided to ignore facts and instead chose to defame him while attempting to discredit his reputation.
“This case is about the media putting their own profits over the truth,” reads the issued suit. “—knowing that it was full of lies and deception and violating journalistic principles.”
Chris attorney Levi McCathern explains in a statement forwarded to PEOPLE that , “This case is about protecting the truth.”
“Despite being provided with evidence disproving their claims, the producers of this documentary intentionally promoted false and defamatory information, knowingly disregarding their ethical obligations as journalists.”
“Their actions undermine not only Mr. Brown’s decade-long efforts to rebuild his life but also the credibility of true survivors of violence.”
Court documents confirm that the father of three is currently suing for alleged defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress and using his name and likeness for promotional purposes. He is seeking for $500,000,000 in damages as well as a jury trial.
