Cousins! Beloved gymnast Jordan Chiles is currently the topic of discussion on social media following shocking reports that she may be stripped of her bronze Olympic medal due to a new ruling on behalf of the Court of Arbitration for Sport!
According to USA TODAY, following Jordan’s epic win this week at the Paris Olympics in the floor exercise finals, two Romanian gymnasts challenged her score insisting that Team USA coaches, “improperly granted an inquiry that increased Chiles score and moved her to into bronze medal position”
Earlier today the Court of Arbitration for Sports argued that Jordan’s time came in after the one-minute deadline and that they have since ruled to reverse her score.
CAS has stated that, Jordan should have received a score of 13.666 in which would’ve placed her in fifth place instead.
According to The International Gymnastics Federation, that Jordan’s score has been reinstated and Romania gymnasts Ana Barbosu, who scored a 13.7, was moved back to third place.
Following the gut-wrenching announcement Jordan shared broken heart emojis on Instagram while noting that she would be taking a break from social media for her mental health. Her sister also took to Instagram to call out officials hinting at racism and unfair judgment as she asks fans to keep Jordan and her family in their prayers.
“Please keep Jordan (and my family) in your prayers. Racism is real, it exists, it is alive and well. They have officially, 5 days later, stripped her of one of her medals.”
“Not because she didn’t win, not because she was drugged, not because she stepped out of bounds. Not because she wasn’t good enough. But because the judges failed to give her difficulty and forced an inquiry to be made,”reads the shared post.
“FOUR SECONDS. Her bronze was stripped over 4 seconds of time that would have never needed to happen if the judges did their job.”
