Cousins! Following this year’s festivities legendary rapper Method Man says that he is all the way good on receiving any future invites to perform at Summer Jam!
Taking to the comment section of Hot 97’s instagram page Method man explained that the generation gap is too wide for his liking and that the attendees from this year’s event wasn’t his crowd at all.
Not our crowd at all,” he wrote on a post featuring him and Redman’s performance. “Thanks again, New York and the whole tri-state (that showed up to the event) plus Pete and Ebro. I got love for you guys. But never again.. at this point the generation gap is just too wide for me. #nevercomingback.”
Method Man’s comment went viral as it further supported fans’ notion that Summer Jam has failed to live up to its initial legacy in recent years. Folks online heavily criticized this year’s lineup of performers stating that Hot 97 chose artists based on social media trends and popularity.
“Hot97 be ashamed of yourselves. Hip Hop icon Method Man is never coming back because as a result of watering down the bill & not gatekeeping Hip Hop standards you let anyone perform to keep up with social media trends,” wrote a social media user.
“Congratulations YOU 🫵🏽played yourselves!”
“That’s why I don’t mess with @HOT97 for a long time now they’re just wave hoppers they only go with the trends when it comes to music & even politics,” wrote a Twitter (X) user.
Artists such as Doja Cat, Sexyy Red, Davido, ASAP Ferg, Lola Brooke, Cash Cobain, Bay Swag, Connie Diiamond, Peter Gunz, Honey Baby, and more hit the stage.
In response to Method Man’s comments members of the ‘Ebro in the Morning’ show say they feel that the audience was disconnected for various reasons.
“It felt like the crowd wasn’t used to seeing a real show,” said DJ Kast One. “They were kinda like staring in amazement. There wasn’t booing or any of that. This is crazy — they’re rapping.”
Method Man and Red Man had also performed at The Roots Picnic in Philadelphia on Saturday where they received a different reaction explained co-host Peter Rosenberg.
“The setup of concerts in general now — even we’re inside now — the festival setup of many acts. I was at Roots Picnic on Saturday. Red and Meth were on that too,” he said. “Yo, it was an incredible lineup. Cats were coming out and freestyling on different beats.”
