Cousins! As Jada Pinkett-Smith gears up for her upcoming book tour for her memoir “Worthy” she is revealing exclusive details about her life as well as her longtime friend Tupac Shakur. In an interview with PEOPLE, the actress says that Tupac suffered from Alopecia after a run-in with Oakland police officers!

Jada says that the late rapper began to experience hair loss in his early 20s after he was arrested for jaywalking in 1991 by the Oakland Police Department in California.
“After he was in Northern California with the police officers that beat him up, he started losing his hair. And his alopecia patterns were far more extreme than mine.”

Jada says that she believes Tupac never spoke publicly about his condition due to the current state of society at the time. “I don’t think Pac ever talked about his alopecia, but he also looked really good with a bald head.”

Jada adds, “But that was during a time and during an era that you wouldn’t-he just wouldn’t talk about it.”

She says that if he were alive today she feels as if he most certainly spoken out about his condition.

PEOPLE reports that Jada expressed her hopefulness that her story including Tupac’s in regard to Alopecia will help raise awareness.

“I’m glad that I’ve had the opportunity and we’ll continue to have the opportunity to talk about how alopecia affects me,” she says. “And I’m just hoping that it’ll give people the freedom to talk about how and just not have shame around it and not to have such a stigma. And there’s a lot of shame around alopecia.”

Jada’s book tour for her memoir “Worthy” kicks off on Monday October 16th.
